Daily blog - maths is good, even if you hate it.

The new test build is in the hands of testers and "Project Beautification" has a start. Thankfully the internet has a wealth of freely available information to help indie developers. Sadly, a lot is outdated or poorly described or written in High Nerd. Today I found myself trying to understand someone else's code for drawing lights using sprites, and bookmarked a paper on Kawase Blur. Unfortunately a fair bit of it goes over my head at the moment and I really need to focus and work to get and handle on the info and rework it into something useful. Being a maths genius would really help with graphics!

It's the kind of thing schools should really be preparing kids for, as most of what you use as an adult is being learnt as an adult. As it is, it's quite challenging and I know after some time I'll have a far better game. It's one of the nicer aspects to indie development, when the end result has really tangible, visual benefits.
